About Gayle Alexander
Early on in life, I acquired two traveling companions that have accompanied and nourished me through several decades: painting and spirituality. My studio and meditation cushion are my laboratory for investigating life.
Challenged and encouraged by my studies and practices of Zen Buddhism, Advaita Vedanta, and Christian Mysticism, I work with visual imagery to explore what it is to be human.
I take my questions and reactions to the empty spaces of canvas, paper and fabric and watch the inquiries and insights evolve and take shape. The resulting images often become portals into deeper, richer, insight.
I studied painting at the California College of Art in Oakland, California and The Art Students League in New York City. I continue to explore a wide variety of media and have been creating paintings for over fifty years.
